Runyon Canyon, 2000 N Fuller Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90046

Hiking is popular activity for Angelenos, so if you're looking for local things to do in LA, then a hike at Runyon Canyon is recommended. There are many hiking areas in LA, but Runyon is a local favorite because of its central location in the Hollywood Hills and sweeping views of the Los Angeles Basin. Runyon Canyon is a public park that has been operated by the City of Los Angeles since 1984. Prior to the city's acquisition of Runyon, the canyon had several private owners, including Carman Runyon, who purchased the land in 1919 and for whom that canyon is named. Huntington Hartford purchased Runyon Canyon from a subsequent owner in the early 1940's and commissioned architect Frank Lloyd Wright and his architect-son Lloyd Wright for a property development that was to include a hotel and country club. Frank Lloyd Wright's plans for Runyon Canyon were never realized, but Lloyd Wright did build a pool house that eventually burned during a canyon fire in the early 1970's.

There are easy, intermediate, and rigorous hiking trails at Runyon Canyon. The park is dog friendly and there are many areas that allow dogs to be off leash. Keep your eyes open for stars as celebrity sightings at Runyon Canyon are a regular occurence.

Getting There: Runyon Canyon is just north of Franklin Ave and west of La Brea Ave, in the Hollywood Hills. Once you park your car, walk north on Fuller Ave to its termination which is where the Runyon Canyon entrance gate is located. Admission to Runyon Canyon is free. The address for Runyon Canyon is 2000 N Fuller Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90046.

Parking: There is no parking lot at Runyon Canyon, you must find street parking outside of the park. There is free parking on Franklin Ave and on Fuller Ave, but the parking spots get scooped up quickly and it may be necessary to cruise the streets a few times before finding a spot.

Traveler Tips: Bring your own bottled water as you will get thirsty halfway through the hike and realize there is no where to purchase water. Also, remember to use the restroom before you arrive as there are no public restrooms at Runyon Canyon.
